Tascam DR2D Reviews

The pros that the Tascam DR2D portable digital recorder has going for it are as follows:

Foremost, the music recorder is solidly constructed.

The second positive from the above device is that the navigational aides are superb – specifically the buttons are large enough to enable you steer your way through the gizmo without fudging your way trough the device. To add on to this claim of being superb in so far as its navigation is concerned is the fact that the product comes along with a remote control, a first in so far as portable music recorders are concerned.

CLICK HERE To get best price we could find on the Tascam DR2D Portable Digital Recorder. Save literally $100s of dollars on this recorder and get FREE Shipping!

Thirdly, the gizmo can record two channel format – two independent files and this is an obvious plus for any one that will use this as a recorder of choice.

The technological magic that has gone into the construction of the Tascam DR2D portable digital recorder is worth mentioning. This is a music recorder has a metro tone – that gives the user of the music the ability to change the speed without altering the pitch; it also offers the user the ability to add reverb during a recording session or during playback.

These features that are to be found in the most sophisticated music recording devices are found in this gizmo and as one individual who has reviewed this product aptly stated – for a retail price of $ 140 or even less, this is a steal in so far as bargains are concerned.

CLICK HERE To get best price we could find on the Tascam DR2D Portable Digital Recorder. Save literally $100s of dollars on this recorder and get FREE Shipping!

Fifthly, the Tascam DR2D portable digital recorder has a dedicated line in jack. The import of this is that this jack is useful as a recorder for any individual who would want to use the Tascam DR2D portable digital recorder as a recorder to hold their analog sources – LP’S, cassettes ,et al.

The operative word here is line-in-jack that essentially ensures that you do not need an attenuator to lower the recording level to record line level recording sources. This function is mitigated by  a one way channel microphone.

In terms of the products audiophile qualities the Tascam DR2D portable digital recorder ranks ahead in the superiority contest when even compared to music recorders that are even more steeply priced than it. It incorporates the subtle textures of a piece of music like horns and stringed instruments – all percussion as well as wind instruments in the exact same manner that they came in from there recording source in the unadulterated form.

The cons that the product has going for it are as follows:

The first issue that comes up for mention is the erratic battery life that many folk describe as being on the Tascam DR2D portable digital recorder thirst for energy. There are instances where the battery has been cited to last for less than four hours!

The problem is however settled with the option of using an AC power cord as a power source, but where the manufacturer gets a kick is their failure to insist that the power cord that is used by the portable recorder be essentially part of the package; instead the 5V, 2A adapter that the product uses  comes along as an optional feature to the buyer which is erroneous in many respects.

CLICK HERE To get best price we could find on the Tascam DR2D Portable Digital Recorder. Save literally $100s of dollars on this recorder and get FREE Shipping!

While still on the issue of energy, the Tascam adapter costs almost twice as much as its opposite numbers in the market, this does not bode well for the brand image of the manufacturer.

The second disadvantage that the portable music recorder tags along is its limitation to only handle audio formats in the following versions – MP3: 32k- 320kbps, 44.1 k/48khz, and in WAV format: 44.1 k/96kHz. This essentially means that anyone who has a recording in any format that is outside this range automatically has to go through the rigors of changing the format and this kind of hassle can be a bore.

The third negative that the  Tascam DR2D portable digital recorder seems to attract is the fact that it does not come along with the raft of options that more expensive portable music recorders would offer.

However, this is understandable because for one the pricing differentials that are involved are obviously an issue here; however, what the Tascam fails to make up for in product options it more than makes up for in the quality of its sound recording that many argue far surpasses the quality that is offered by these other higher priced products.

CLICK HERE To get best price we could find on the Tascam DR2D Portable Digital Recorder. Save literally $100s of dollars on this recorder and get FREE Shipping!

If you are in the market for  a portable music recorder that assures you of unadulterated sound recording from the line source, a music recorder that assures you of the ability to record your music from analogue sources, a music recorder that essentially ensures that you can record you music in two formats, and a music recorder that assures you the consumer that your music is backed up in a lower format and similarly can be edited in both recording and play back options; then your best bet lies in getting a portable music recorder that is for all seasons. What you need is the Tascam DR2D portable digital recorder.

Memorex Digital Voice Recorder Review

Memorex Digital Voice Recorder Review

Memorex Digital Voice Recorder is a 1GB voice recorder. It promises to give users amazing functions at an affordable price but fails in accomplishing this end. When shopping for a recorder, you need something that is ideal for day to day use and ideal. It should also be easy to use and while this recorder promises to meet both ends, but in essence, it does not.

It uses 3 mode recording and this is seen as a major setback by people who are looking for a simplified recorder that delivers precision and accuracy. The HP levels of the voice recorder are not appeasing as well. This is because it is 3.5 hours and this translates to 213 minutes at a mere 20kbps. In addition to this, the MP is also low at 7.1 hours translating to 425 minutes at ten kbps.

Memorex Digital Voice Recorder Features

Some of the features in the digital voice recorder include the following.

  • 3 mode recording
  • Digital recorder that has flash memory of 128MB
  • Recording time of up to 28 hours and 64MB
  • 3.5 HP hours
  • 7.1 MP hours

Regardless of these features, the Memorex Digital Voice Recorder disappoints users in numerous other ways and it is aspects such as these that make it such an unreliable product.

Memorex Digital Voice Recorder Reviews

Consumers are not overly thrilled with the Memorex Digital Voice Recorder and it is this fact that explains why it is not so popular among users in the market. One consumer says that while the product is good, it does not come with a power button and this means that one has to remove the battery at times when it is not been used. This is seen as a major inconvenience and especially among people who work with tight schedules and don’t have time to keep on removing and returning the battery.

Another consumer cautions buyers to beware and claims that if a product is cheap, then it is cheap. The consumer says that they were in urgent need of a recorder and since it was the only unit available locally they decided to go for it but was disappointed with the purchase. The consumer argues that it does not have some necessary features such as fast forward and thus, having to listen to the same thing over and over again is tiring. This is because once you stop it accidently you have to start listening to the tape again from the beginning.

What is more, another consumer argues that it only works perfectly when it is used to record manually and this is another major setback associated with the recorder. What is more, the same consumer argues that it is difficult to play back and whenever voice activate if used, it indicates time used but does not play back. It is these negative reviews that make the Memorex Digital Voice Recorder one to steer clear from and opt for another better option in order to get quality service. This is especially true if using the recorder is a matter of utmost importance and quality is just as important.

Sony ICD-SX712 Digital Flash Voice Recorder vs Zoom H1 Digital Recorder Review

Sony ICD-SX712 Digital Flash Voice Recorder vs Zoom H1 Digital Recorder Review

So this week I thought I would take a look at two very comparable recorders and see if I could decide on an absolute winner…

The Sony ICD-SX712 Digital Flash Voice Recorder is a relatively new offering from Sony that looks very promising and is getting some very good reviews – and of course the Zoom H1 has been around for awhile and carries Zoom’s excellent reputation when it comes to digital recorders that just work.

At first glance both recorders seem to be on level ground. Price is very comparable and judging by the looks both feature stereo microphones etc… Lets take a quick look at the most important features and see how they stack up.

Wow! So for the most part these are very comparable recorders with similar price points however the Zoom H1 is obviously a little cheaper. Sony is a great name in electronics and they’re probably betting on the fact that some people will be willing to pay a little more (that’s what they seem to do for most of their products).

CLICK HERE To get the best prices on both the SONY ICD-SX712 or the Zoom H1 Digital Recorder!

When it comes to user reviews both recorders are fairly equal as well. While it is true that the Sony doesn’t have near the reviews on Amazon that the Zoom H1 has – everything that it’s received has been very positive and both units have around a 4 star rating on Amazon.

Upon closer inspection each offer a few different things that may appeal to different people.

For example the Sony ICD-SX712 offers things like a calendar/planner (not sure why you would want this on a digital recorder but I suppose if you are using it for memos it might be useful).

The H1 however offers a TRIPOD MOUNT! I can’t say for sure that the Sony doesn’t but I can’t find it listed in any of the specs. Trust me when I say that a tripod mount is a great thing to have and even if you don’t think you’ll use it – you will at some point!

The Conclusion

It’s pretty hard to decide on an absolute winner here. The Zoom H1 is definitely cheaper and is probably more geared for recording music/interviews/audio for video while the Sony looks to be more adept at taking memos and is more business oriented.

Both recorders are very well reviewed on places like Amazon and Consumer Reports so depending on your personal needs and brand preferences I would say check each out a little more thoroughly and make the decision. Both are great recorders and would make a good purchase.

Sony ICD-BX800 Review

So I know it’s been a little while since we’ve updated the site or wrote a good review so I thought I would write up a quick Sony ICD-BX800 Review for you guys.

This looks like it was designed for the basic uses such as lectures, interviews etc… but I wouldn’t get my hopes up about doing too much (or any) music work with this thing as it’s fairly cheap (under $30!) and the mics just aren’t going to be that great.

Upon further inspection I think this recorder is primarily meant for taking notes to listen back to later… read-on to find out why.

Click Here to read more user reviews and information on the Sony ICD-BX800

It’s fairly well reviewed on places like Amazon.com however there is one obvious drawback to this recorder that would definitely keep me from purchasing.

I looked at over 30 reviews and of those over 25 were very positive, which sort of surprised me considering the fact that there is no USB port! Yep, you read that right. In order to get audio from this unit to your computer you have to stream it via the headphone jack as far as I can tell!

Of course the negative reviews on this product are all due to this fact. The thing is though, if you’re just looking for a great little note-taking device then it might be one of the best options out there.

Click Here to find out how you can save 28% and get Free Shipping on the Sony ICD-BX800

People were very impressed with ease of use and thats one of the most important things when it comes to a recorder like this. If you’re going to use it to take notes on the fly then it should be quick and easy to use, otherwise you just won’t use it!

Basically the users of this recorder say that is sounds surprisingly good considering the price. It is very easy to power on and record something quickly. And the playback speaker does a great job of providing clarity when listening back to your memos etc…

The people who don’t like this recorder hate the fact that it doesn’t have a USB port (probably not enough research before buying) and some people have mentioned that the sound is not that great although they are in the minority compared to the other reviews.

Overall I would say that if you’re looking for a good memo recorder, it’s very easy to trust the Sony name and the other users reviews speak for themselves.

Click Here to find out how you can save 28% and get Free Shipping on the Sony ICD-BX800

It’s definitely worth a closer look and I hope you enjoyed my quick Sony ICD-BX800 Review!

Olympus VN-8100PC Digital Voice Recorder 142600 Review

Olympus VN-8100PC Digital Voice Recorder 142600 Review

Looking for an affordable solution to capture lectures, interviews or meetings? Need an easy way to record musical ideas? You may want to give the Olympus VN-8100PC digital voice recorder a closer look.

With nothing but 4 and 5 star ratings for this product and people raving about the unit it’s pretty obvious that this is a safe choice and with the Olympus brand name backing it up you know you’re getting quality and good support should you have any troubles.

The VN-8100PC features 2 gigabytes of internal memory which allows for more than 800 hours of continuous recording time. Plenty of time to record all those meetings without missing anything before you have to do a transfer to your computer.

Click Here to get the best price we could find online for the Olympus VN-8100PC Digital Voice Recorder.

An easy USB connection makes transferring the files to your computer a snap as well. If you can use a memory stick than you’ll have no troubles with the VN-8100PC.

It supports the two most popular recording formats which are WMA and MP3 and has an easy to read LCD display which makes it easy to navigate between recordings and won’t leave you guessing if you’re actually recording or not!

Olympus VN-8100PC Digital Voice Recorder Features

  • 2GB Of Memory built in
  • WMA and MP3 supported
  • Large easy to read LCD Screen
  • USB Connectivity

The Reviews

We looked at over 30 consumer reviews from various consumer reports websites and it’s pretty obvious that people are very happy with the Olympus VN-8100PC Digital Voice Recorder. Out of 30 reviews on amazon there was only 1 2 star rating and 1 3 star rating, the rest are 4 and 5 stars, this is usually a good indicator of a products quality.

So what dont people like about the Olympus VN-8100PC?

There are certainly some complaints about the unit which include things like a terrible manual. Unfortunately Olympus and many other digital recorder manufacturers are terrible at producing legible manuals! The good news is, this thing is simple to use and you won’t really need the manual anyways but one reviewer pointed out that you’re going to have to be prepared to substitute a verb or two when deciphering the manual!

Aside from that however, people are VERY happy with the sound of this recorder as well as things like the battery life, the fact that it comes with a case and it’s ease of use.

One thing you should know about digital recorders in this price range is that you will get some hiss in the recordings, these are not professional recording devices and are designed to capture sound for archival purposes, not for super quality playback.

With this in mind however, we were surprised to find that many reviewers commented on how well the hiss reduction filter on this unit works. While many other units have a hiss reduction feature, they normally don’t do very much in terms of reducing background noise and generally degrade the quality. This doesn’t seem to be the case with the Olympus VN-8100PC with one reviewer stating that he chose it over a similar model from Sony because the hiss reduction works so well.

This recorder is perfect for capturing lectures, interviews and basically any voice. It would also be a great practice tool for musicians looking to capture phrasing etc… however don’t expect to make high-quality demos with a unit like this, it simply doesn’t have the quality (check out the Zoom H4n if you want to make high-quality demos!).

Click Here to get the best price on the Olympus VN-8100PC Digital Voice Recorder! Guaranteed!

Based on our research we would have no problem recommending this unit to anyone looking for a basic, easy to use digital recorder.

Flip Ultra HD Reviews – This Thing Looks Pretty Cool!

So after reading a ton of Flip Ultra HD reviews I think I’m finally going to go ahead and make the purchase. My friend and I are starting a website designed for beginner-intermediate guitarists and we need some way to record high-quality video and I think the Flip HD will do exactly what we need it to. (Check out our new site by the way! TheSixStringAcademy.com)

The Flip Ultra HD allows you to record up to 2 hours of high-definition video which is perfect for what we need because most of our videos will only be around 10-15 minutes each. It’s cheaper than a regular high-def video camera and while you may not get some of the professional features I don’t think we’ll really need any of the fancy stuff.

Click here to get the best price on the Flip Ultra HD with Free Shipping!

For me the fact that this thing is simple to use is the biggest factor that influenced my decision. If you’ve read this blog at all you know that I absolutely love the Zoom H4n because of it’s simplicity and from what I’m hearing the Flip HD is to video recording what the H4n is to audio recording. Apparently it also features some nice audio as well so maybe I won’t have to worry about syncing up the two which would be great.

You can simply plug it in via the built-in USB connector and “sync” it to your computer which should keep things simple as well. Then just open the video in your favorite editing program and away you go.

Flip Ultra HD Features:

  • Will record up to 2 hours of HD video on a single charge
  • Super easy to use, just hit the RED button
  • Has built in image stabilization
  • Works like a memory stick, just plug and play to transfer files to your computer

The Flip Ultra HD Reviews:

So what are other users saying about the unit?

I read and researched over 150 reviews from a bunch of different consumer report websites before I made the decision to buy and from what I can tell the Flip Ultra HD is very good at what it does and most people are very happy with their purchase.

Of course you can’t please everyone and there are some complaints which I will tell you about as we go on.

The first thing I noticed is that people love the microphones on this unit and as I’m going to be using it for recording a lot of guitar and instructional videos, audio is a huge thing for me. The new microphones are apparently quite a step up from the previous (slide) unit and that really sealed the deal.

In general they love the build quality and over all recording quality of the unit so I think it will be a perfect fit for me. There are however a few concerns:

The ‘Image Stabilization Feature’ has been met with skepticism by quite a few people. For me this won’t be a problem because the Flip will be mounted on a tripod or on my desk but what other users are saying is that you can suffer a drop in video quality when using the image stabilization and if you’re going to be using this camera on the go then I’d recommend checking into this further.

The other main complaint is about the digital zoom. We all know that digital zoom sucks and if you plan on using it then you are going to lose some video quality, thats just how it works unfortunately. Again not a problem for me but if you do anticipate needing good zooming capabilities you might want to look elsewhere.

Aside from these few negative complaints any other complaints were generally due to a defective unit or someone not following manufacturers instructions when it comes to charging etc… Unfortunately defective units do happen from time to time so it’s always a good idea to purchase from a reputable retailer who will remedy the situation at no cost to you.

Heres a video we recorded for our new guitar site TheSixStringAcademy.com with the Flip HD. Not Bad!

I think it’s going to be a great camera and I’ll be sure to update you on how it’s working for me as I get to use it more.

Good luck checking out more Flip Ultra HD Reviews!

The Reviews

There is a reason Sony has a reputable name as a leading brand in electronics. This tried and true company has consistently produced cutting-edge electronics and has gained momentum in consumer loyalty and satisfaction. With the introduction of the Sony Digital Voice Recorder, Sony plants its stamp in yet another item. The portable audio recording device boasts generous-sized front speakers and easy-to-use divide and delete options which will provide for optimal editing options. The microphone has a sensitivity selector to enable it to control which noises it picks up.

Consumers who have purchased the Sony Digital Voice Recorder have had varied things to say about this product. One consumer reports that the recorder was used in a large conference room with many people and the audio was crystal clear and picked up all the desired sounds with clarity and proper function.

The consumer did report that the voice recorder occasionally had problems picking up softer voices but this can easily be rectified by placing the recorder closer to the person when speaking is being recorded. Soft-voiced people can be viewed as murmuring background noise by the sensitive editing device on the Sony Digital Voice Recorder. Simply adjusting the microphone and placing it at a closer range to people who speak in softer than normal voices will quickly take care of this problem.
